VmfWin at the Embedded Systems Conference 2008, in San Jose, CA |
KUKA Roboter presents his Virtual Machine Framework for Windows® to US developers |
Augsburg, Germany – April 15, 2008 – KUKA, a leading developer and user of real-time extensions for Windows®, exhibits at the Embedded Systems Conference, (ESC) on April, 15-17 in San Jose, CA. showing its new Virtual Machine Framework for Windows®. With its VmfWin, the Virtual Machine Framework for Windows®, KUKA Roboter is offering a very flexible, progressive virtualization technology for embedded solutions running real-time operating system and Windows® on single-core and multi-core systems. As a first implementation KUKA Roboter and his partner IBV are showing QWin®, running QNX® and Windows® XP on the same system.
Following the opportunities offered by new multi-core processors KUKA Roboter used his more than 12 years of experience with his products VxWin® and CeWin® to develop the next generation of its successful product family, the KUKA Virtual machine Framework – VmfWin® -. VmfWin together with the underlying RTOS Virtual Machine - RTOSVM® – is a world-wide unique, sophisticated platform that can host any arbitrary embedded and Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) at the same time with Windows® the Microsoft General-Purpose Operating System (GPOS) on a single hardware platform.
Single-Core and Multi-Core systems are supportedVmfWin offers developers the opportunity to run real-time Operating Systems and Windows® using this technology with single-core and multi-core processors systems without the disadvantage to need processor depending Virtualization Technology.
Developers can easily design scaleable embedded solutions, running the RTOS either with high priority together with Windows® on the same CPU core e.g. a cheaper single-core system or it may exclusively facilitate one or more CPU cores of a multi-core system. Running different real-time operating systems as well as different instances of the same RTOS on different CPU cores is also supported. |
Missing Drivers for your RTOS, VmfWin can be a Solution!Existing legacy RTOS's, with missing driver for standard devices, can be adapted to Windows® by using VmfWin® to run on single processor-based computers. With less efforts VmfWin offers customer a fast access to commercial devices, HMI and communication using the available drivers for Windows®.
System OEMs choosing the VmfWin® technology can achieve significant cost savings and redeploy their existing legacy real-time and embedded application without costly and risky porting efforts. |
 | | VmfWin offers the Idea for adaptation of other RTOS'sOne of the first customers of RTOSVM is the German based “IBV - Echtzeit- und Embedded GmbH & Co. KG” from Koenigsbrunn. As an authorized QNX®-Distributor, IBV has adapted the RTOS QNX® to RTOSVM and showcased its new product QWin® on the KUKA booth at the ESC in San Jose.
This technology is very interesting for different kind of applications in the areas of machine builder, test & measurement, medical devices and entertainment, just to name some. To make further real-time operating systems available for the market, more partners have already evaluated VmfWin and started the development to use VmfWin together with their own Real-Time Operating System to adapt it to Windows®. |
