KUKA Roboter Extends University Research Support Programs for RTOSWin

KUKA Roboter will further support University Research Support Programs

The Company will donate normally licensed real-time extension software programs, CeWin®, VxWin® and VmfWin to qualified universities and colleges. Participation requirements include a suitable project or teaching syllabus; a scientific, engineering or computer sciences curriculum; and laboratory facilities with the prerequisite equipment.

Taking advantage of modern multi core processors

Taking advantage of the technological opportunities of new multi core microprocessors in speed and architecture, the KUKA Roboter technology allows a COTS or legacy real-time operating system and Windows XP Embedded® to coexist on a single system. KUKA Roboter’s technology is employed in over 80,000 real-time control systems for equipment ranging from automotive assembly line robots to advanced medical diagnostic systems. Students will utilize the software in many applications including the engineering of real-time motion control systems and development of scientific applications.

Adding real-time capabilities to Windows XP®

The KUKA Roboter technology allows Windows® XP Embedded or 2000 and a real-time operating system to coexist on a single machine while maintaining the real-time performance capability. This combination results in hard real-time performance, a user-friendly interface and the opportunity to use the numerous possibilities of visualization offered by Windows® XP and Vista. VxWin® adds Wind River’s VxWorks® as a real-time processing environment to Windows® XPand Vista, while CeWin® adds real-time capabilities to Windows® using Microsoft Windows® CE. VmfWin will be used to combine KUKA Roboter's technology with any other real-time operation system.

Well proven technology available for new micro processors

This technology is employed in over 80,000 real-time control systems for equipment ranging from automotive assembly line robots to advanced CAT scan medical diagnostic systems. Students will utilize the software in many applications including the engineering of real-time motion control systems and development of scientific instruments.

Taking part of the University Program

The University Research Support Program is planned to be valid until December 31, 2008. Eligibility is granted on a per application basis to non-commercial educational research projects. It is not limited to certain fields of research.
Any project requiring a real-time operating system will be considered. Interested parties can send an online application, including an abstract of the project to sales@kuka-rtos.com.
